HISTORY:
Martin Carwardine & Co are one of the oldest, independent, coffee roasteries in Bristol. They’re a fifth generation, family-owned business, with a deep breadth of history, delving back over 150 years. Their coffee is hand roasted, blended and packaged in the foothills of the Mendips by Martin and his team. The flame roasted techniques have been learned and passed on through each of the 5 generations, right back from 1861.
BRIEF:
The focus of this project was to retouch, restore and bring new life to the printed visual communications. Firstly, redesigning the coffee packaging and then carrying this direction through to all printed marketing materials. The aim? Increase perceived value to new and long standing customers, but not at the expense of higher purchase price or production cost. Distinction but not exclusivity. Value without exclusion.
IDENTITY:
The visual design cues reflect late 18th century Bristol, giving homage to over 150 years of roasting coffee. Traditional illustration techniques, roughened embellishments, the introduction of minimal sans serif typography and a visual cue to the Bristol half tolken. All of which, combine to evoke the imported craft nature of this natural, exotic produce.
